South Carolina Baseball Head Coach Ray Tanner has been named the SEC Coach of the Year by the league’s 12 head baseball coaches.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Carolina Baseball Head Coach Ray Tanner has been named the SEC Coach of the Year by the league’s 12 head baseball coaches.
Tanner coached the No. 1-ranked Gamecocks to a regular season SEC Baseball title, and a share of the SEC Eastern Division title. Florida and Vanderbilt will share the SEC regular season championship with USC.
Tanner was named National Coach of the Year last year by Collegiate Baseball newspaper after leading the Gamecocks to their first national championship.
Three Gamecocks made the All-SEC First Team: second baseman Scott Wingo, pitcher Michael Roth, and relief pitcher Matt Price. Roth was also named to the Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. First baseman Christian Walker was named to the All-SEC second team.
Wingo, Walker and outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. were named to the SEC All Defense team. Pitcher Forrest Koumas was named to the all freshman team.
Tanner also has coached internationally, having served five times as head coach for the USA National Baseball team. He also served as an auxiliary coach for the 2000 Olympic team that won a gold medal in Sydney.
Tanner became South Carolina's coach in 1996 after nine seasons coaching at North Carolina State.
