COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina senators will resume debate on a $5.9 billion general budget buoyed by signs of good economic news.

State revenues are running ahead of projections for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

And the budget legislators will discuss on Wednesday now includes plans to spend up to $110 million in surplus cash for an unemployment insurance tax break for employers.

Most of the extra cash coming into the state during the first nine months of the fiscal year have come from individual and corporate income tax collections beating expectations.

Senate Minority Leader John Land said tax collection surpluses are signs the state's economy is mending. Land said there's no question the economy has turned the corner.
