The Palmetto Heroes program provides $15 million to help heroes in this community become homeowners.
RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- The Palmetto Heroes program provides $15 million to help heroes in this community become homeowners.
The program offers a reduced mortgage interest rate and down payment assistance to police officers, firefighters, EMS, teachers, nurses, and new this year veterans are eligible.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott expressed his appreciation of the support for people in uniform.
“We know that we have to run toward danger because that is our job and to be able to purchase a home through a program like this speaks volumes to the support we give our public safety officials,” he said.
Workers who use the Palmetto Heroes program must live and work in South Carolina or have a contract to begin working here within 60 days of closing on a home.
Eligible home buyers can get a fixed interest rate of 4.625% on a mortgage through SC State Housing’s First-time Home Buyer Program as well as adown payment assistance of up to $5,000.
Representatives from the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority, Richland County Sheriffs Department, South Carolina Realtors, and the Home Builders Association of South Carolina were in attendance to announce the details of the program Monday.
