COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service visited some Richland County students Thursday.
Brook Heider is finally able to personally thanks the Center for Achievement for sending care packages to his unit stationed in Afghanistan.
Heider returned from overseas last week. In January, a third grade class began communicating with him through email.
Students included their school's mascot in one of the care packages they sent to him.
In return, Heider would take pictures with the stuffed lion while out on missions so the children could see where he was working.
"And on the last mission, I went out and I gave it to a little Afghani boy," Heider says. "I was actually going to pose a picture with him but once I gave it to him it was all over."
Heider says the project was very rewarding. To show his appreciation, he presented the school with an American flag.
