FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) -- The Army is giving its male and female military spouses a chance to run, jump, shoot and climb their way through a day of basic training exercises.
Fort Jackson spokesman Pat Jones said Saturday's event is designed to help spouses understand what drill sergeants and commanders do while leading recruits through 10 weeks of training.
Jones said spouses and their mates may take part in physical fitness exercises, run an obstacle course, climb the 50-foot steel "Victory Tower" and participate in rifle marksmanship training.
Fort Jackson is the Army's largest training site and graduates more than 60,000 soldiers from its schools every year.
