COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- The University of South Carolina is hosting the World Congress of Ultrasound in Medical Education.
The program runs from Friday through Sunday and includes hands-on ultrasound workshops, expert panel presentations and industry exhibits.
"Grabbing out new ideas from this congress to improve our educational training for medical physicians and medical students," says Dr. Raoul Breitkreutz from Germany.
Speakers include Scott Dulchavsky, whose research includes teaching ultrasound techniques to astronauts to use in case of an emergency at the International Space Station.
The dean of University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine says the school learned about its hosting honor because it's one of the first institutions to begin an integrated ultrasound program.
"We are hoping this World Congress is the tipping point," says Dr. Richard Hoppmann, Dean of the USC School of Medicine. "I think we are close enough to enough people understanding the power of ultrasound both as an educational tool and clinical tool."
Hoppmann says the school learned about its hosting honor because it's one of the first institutions to begin an integrated ultrasound program a few years ago.
