CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- An American Airlines flight to Washington, D.C., from Miami was diverted to South Carolina after electrical fumes were reported in a lavatory on the plane.
Airline spokesman Ed Martelle said the flight attendants smelled a hot ozone odor as if wires might be overheating. He said the pilot followed standard procedures and landed the plane as quickly as possible.
Charleston County Aviation Authority spokeswoman Becky Beaman said the plane landed in Charleston about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Martelle said a repair crew was being flown in and the plane, after repairs are made, was expected to continue to Washington with its 160 passengers. The passengers spent the night in hotels.
There were no injuries.
Beaman said American Airlines Flight 1012 had originated in New Orleans.
