CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Crews are heading out to remove abandoned boats from the water in Horry County.
Officials say that on Tuesday, five derelict boats will be pulled from the Intracoastal Waterway and the Pee Dee River. The boats are a hazard to navigation and a danger to wildlife in addition to looking unsightly.
The county is removing the boats in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Department of Natural Resources.
The county got a grant from the state to pay for the removal.
