ST. STEPHEN, S.C. (WACH, WCIV) -- The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division  is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened just before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened on Old Mill Road when a deputy was attempting to arrest a 23-year-old man on a criminal domestic violence warrant.

Officials with the sheriff's office said during the arrest the man grabbed the deputy's gun and the deputy fired the weapon.

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified the man as Jerome Darby of St. Stephen.

The sheriff's office called in SLED to investigate, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

At this time the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave.
