HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WACH, AP) - The star of the Internet "bedroom intruder" viral video, Antoine Dodson, is facing criminal charges after being arrested over the weekend for possession of marijuana in his home state of Alabama.
Dodson was booked on five misdemeanor charges after he was stopped pulled over for alleged speeding early Saturday morning in Huntsville. He was booked at about 2:30 a.m. and released.
Dodson became a reality sensation last year after a televised rant about a break-in at his sister's apartment went viral on YouTube with more than 79 million views and catapulted the 20-year-old into television appearances, blog mentions and other appearances.
He could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday. A message on Dodson's Twitter account about 11:30 a.m. read in part: "Just got out of jail off a weak charge."
Despite recent liberalization of marijuana laws throughout the nation, the South continues to have some of the nation's strictest anti-marijuana laws and of the 13 states that have decriminalized use only North Carolina is in the South.
Dodson could face jail time as Alabama as state law allows for up to a year in prison and a $6,000 fine for a first offense of marijuana possession. A second possession conviction is considered a felony with up to a 10 year prison sentence.
In South Carolina, possession of up to an ounce of marijuana could result in 30 days in jail and a $200 fine for a first offense with up to a year in jail for a second offense. Possession of more than an ounce is a felony under state law with up to a five year prison sentence and a $5,000 fine.
