RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- Although many folks may not be aware of it, those homemade signs that pop up along right-of-ways in Richland County are illegal.

The law states those signs must be at least 12 feet from the right-of-way.  Councilwoman Valerie Hutchinson will introduce a proposal at a committee meeting April 26th, that would allow the county to remove those signs each week.

"The current ordinance requires our planning department to issue three warnings before issuing a citation," said Hutchinson.  "It just doesn't work, it's cumbersome."

Political campaign signs are also covered under the ordinance.
