COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Five Points business owners are touting their new surveillance cameras as crime fighting aids.

The Five Points Association says thanks to the recently installed video systems it has caught a suspect in the act of breaking into two vehicles in the popular Columbia entertainment district.

The association says the suspect used a rock to break into one vehicle in the parking lot of Grouchos Deli early Tuesday morning.  That vehicle just happened to belong to owner Bruce Miller.

"Watching this criminal break into my car on film is eye-opening and certainly satisfying, Miller said.  "Within two weeks of these cameras watching my lot, they are already proving to be very useful."

The footage from the cameras is being handed over to police for their investigation.

The cameras were installed before the big St. Patrick's Day Festival in Five Points to beef up security.

While many say the cameras are a huge help in cutting down on crime and catching criminals, others argue it's an invasion of privacy.  What do you think?
