COLUMBIA (WACH) -- There is a new law in the Palmetto State designed to eliminate conflicts of interest among elected officials.

Gov. Nikki Haley signed the bill into law at the State House Thursday.

The measure stops a person from serving on a political board or commission while being employed by that same board or commission.

"Now the state is better because we now have a bill that was good government and all the members of the House supported that," Haley explained.

The bill passed the House and Senate without any opposition.

Last week, Haley was put front and center concerning an alleged conflict of interest between her roll as a state representative and her place of work at the Lexington Medical Center.  Haley said she worked very hard not to cross any lines when it came to the creation of a heart center at the facility.

What, if any, change will come from this new law?
