COLUMBIA, (WACH, AP) -- The city of Columbia teams up with several area groups for a day of family fitness to promote First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign to cut down on childhood obesity.

Saturday, City officials, Select Health of South Carolina and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands hosted "Let's Move!" Kids Day Columbia! at Finlay Park.

The free event included fitness and health screenings for children and adults.

Several local area churches and organizations got a chance to perform, dance and sing.

Organizers say it took them at least ten months to plan the event that would start to bring awareness to the issue of childhood obesity.

There were also healthy food options and a chance to win $1,000 and other prizes.

Organizers say Bi-Lo and First Citizens Bank of Columbia were major sponsors.
