COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Instead of walking a mile in their shoes, CMRTA board members sat a mile in the bus rider's seat.  Officials ended up at the Sumter Street bus station.

Board members toured the facility and talked with bus riders Monday to get feedback on how to help the struggling transportation system.

Most riders had plenty of complaints and suggestions.

Officials see this as another change to help get the system back on track.

"Basically, what we're looking at is efficiency, on time improvement, more buses on the routes; we're looking at, you know, park and ride, several things to make the bus system more accessible," explains Joyce Dickerson, Chair of the CMRTA Board.

The Sumter Street station will be undergoing a face lift as part of the effort to make the system more appealing to riders in the Midlands.
