CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A prominent military leader and analyst is discussing terrorism and national security with cadets at The Citadel.

Retired Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey, who was commander in chief of the U.S. Armed Forces Southern Command, speaks Thursday at the state military college.

McCaffrey, who led troops against Iraq in Operation Desert Storm, served for 32 years in the military.

He is a winner of the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second highest medal for valor. He has also won two Silver Stars and three Purple Heart medals.
