NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A new $36 million road in the Lowcountry is expected to ease congestion on Interstate 26 in North Charleston.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the 6-mile-long Commerce Parkway opens with a ribbon cutting and speeches by local officials on Wednesday.
The road connects Ladson and Ashley Phosphate roads, running parallel to I-26 for two exits between North Charleston and Summerville.It's an area of the interstate that can sometimes be gridlocked during the morning and evening rush hours.
Planners say that, within 20 years, 16,000 vehicles a day will be using the new parkway.
