GREER, S.C. (AP) -- BMW Manufacturing Co. says it is pouring more money into its South Carolina operation.

BMW Manufacturing president Josef Kerscher said Monday the company is investing an additional $100 million at its plant near Greer.

Kerscher made the announcement at the annual meeting of the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce. He says the new investment will make the plant more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Kerscher says BMW is gearing up for a new X3 program and hopes the new investment will prepare vehicle kits for export to more parts of the world.

It's not clear if the money will lead to new jobs at the plant. The company added 1,600 temporary jobs in the second half of 2010 as it ramped up to produce the X3.
