CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Governor Nikki Haley promised tourism officials from across the state on Tuesday that she would become their ambassador to market and expand the state's $18.4 billion industry.

She spoke before about 450 people today at the Governors Conference on Tourism and Travel that she has simple goals for the state -- putting people in restaurants, hotels and stores.

The governor said she will "market South Carolina like you have never seen. I'm going to brag about this state because I love it."

She says South Carolina needs to focus on bringing in repeat visitors and promoting tourism in its rural areas.

Haley says that many people booked vacations in South Carolina because of the Gulf oil spill tragedy. She says the state needs to make sure they return for this year's vacation.
