Dog hailed hero after family escapes house fire

LEXINGTON (WACH)--A family safely escapes a house fire after being alerted by their dog.
 
According to Lexington County fire officials, at approximately 6:00 a.m Sunday, the Lexington County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a residential structure fire at 3015 Bachman Road in the Gaston community of Lexington County. 
 
Within minutes firefighters from the Lexington County Fire Service along with personnel from Lexington County EMS arrived on scene and discovered the home heavily involved with fire which took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring under control.  
 
The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the residents was awakened and alerted of the fire by their dog, enabling them to safely escape the home unharmed. 
 
Representatives from the American Red Cross also responded and are assisting those who were displaced due to the fire. 
The cause of the fire is under investigation and damages are estimated at approximately $70,000.
