CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina wants to make sure the fruits and vegetables grown in the state are safe, and is inviting produce farmers to attend one of a series of food safety workshops.

The first workshop is on Tuesday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Vegetable Lab in Charleston.

Sessions at the workshop include food safety for producers and information on production of small fruits and vegetables.

The second regional workshop is scheduled for Feb. 21 in Kingstree. A third will be held in the Midlands at a time and place to be announced.
