GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) -- A World War II-era plane that crashed in Lake Greenwood is going on display in the South Carolina capital.
The South Carolina Historic Aviation Foundation is offering tours of a B-25C bomber on Saturday at Hamilton-Owens Field in Columbia.
The event is a fundraiser for the foundation, which was formed to keep the plane in South Carolina. Organizers have pledged to restore the B-25C to its original condition.
The plane crashed on a training mission out of Greenville Army Air Base on June 6, 1944, when the instructor took the plane too close to the surface of Lake Greenwood.
It spent 39 years at the bottom of the lake before it was raised and restored for static display.
