RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) -- The town of Ridgeland is asking a federal judge to toss out a lawsuit challenging the town's use of cameras to catch speeders on Interstate 95 in southern South Carolina.
The company that helped the town launch the camera system also has asked that the suit filed in Charleston be dismissed.
The Beaufort Gazette reported that an attorney for Ridgeland, Timothy Domin, has challenged the accusation that mailing tickets to those recorded speeding amounts to an illegal arrest. He says police do not stop motorists and the plaintiffs were never detained.
Two drivers from Florida and one from South Carolina sued in December alleging the use of cameras to ticket speeders is unconstitutional.
