HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Hilton Head Island is using an emergency account to help market the Heritage golf tournament for the third consecutive year.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported town council voted Wednesday to give $160,000 to the Heritage Classic Foundation. The foundation had requested $370,000.

The $1.6 million account is used for emergency advertising to bring visitors to the resort island. Money from the account helped market the island during the Great Recession and after the 9/11 attacks.
