COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Budget writers in the South Carolina Legislature will hear from an agency that's been at the heart of government reorganization efforts.
The state Budget and Control Board runs much of the state's bureaucracy and will give its budget presentation Thursday.
Gov. Nikki Haley wants the agency's functions reviewed. Former Republican Gov. Mark Sanford pushed for years with no success to have it rolled into an administrative agency he would control.
Legislators are more open to the idea this year as they close an $829 million budget gap and they talk about reorganizing and streamlining government.
Meanwhile state Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal is expected to tell budget writers what's needed to keep the state's courts operating.
