ORANGEBURG (WACH) -- On January 13th The South Carolina State University faculty senate delivered a no-confidence vote on President Dr. George Cooper.

But some students we talked with say that group jumped the gun.

“I feel that it’s too early. I feel that he has a lot of complications that he had to clear up before being here. Since being here he has done a pretty good job with making the campus safe and we have a productive faculty,” says Darryl Brown a senior at SC State.

The faculty senate voted 19-3 against Cooper citing a number of reasons ranging from a lack of vision for the university, overseeing the schools financial status and issues surrounding the James Clyburn transportation center.

State Senator Robert Ford says if President Cooper loves the university he should resign on his own.

Brown says this vote isn't fair.

“They didn't do their homework. He’s being doing a good job. Since I’ve been here and I’ve been here since President Hugine was here and I can tell the difference,” says Brown.

President Cooper was not available when WACH Fox was on campus Monday.

The vote was sent to the school's Board of Trustees. No word yet on if the board will take action on the recommendation.

Dr. Cooper has yet to comment on the faculty senate's decision.
