COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Over the weekend we saw several headlines of police shootings across the country. Some officers were killed in the line of duty while others were injured.
Despite an increase in reported violent crimes here in some Midlands communities, local authorities say they haven't seen the same aggression toward their officers.
Richland and Lexington County, along with city of Columbia officials say they didn't have any officers or deputies shot while on duty in 2010.
Monique Mack with the Richland County Sheriff's Department says the last time one of their deputies was shot while on patrol was in 2008 after finding a meth lab in the woods north of Columbia. Click here to read more.
