Global shipping company DHL plans to bring jobs to Lexington.
COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A big boost will be coming to Lexington in the near future.
DHL Forwarding, an offshoot of DHL Global, plans to hire another 140 employees for its processing center. DHL Global already has nearly 380 workers at the operation.
"We are in a business that doesn't make things," says DHL Vice President for Human Resources John Hovnanian. "We're in a business that is absolute customer service, so the value we put on our people is enormous and it's really about our people that keeps this place exciting."
Spokeswoman Jennifer Pakradooni says the Lexington facility handles nearly all of the company's customs documentation for international air and ocean freight.
She says the company could hire more workers later.
Company officials say the decision was based on the fact that there is a skilled workforce in South Carolina because of numerous universities.
DHL located the center in Lexington in 2009.
