COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The SkyWACH weather team is tracking a winter storm that's expected to strick the midlands late Sunday night into early Tuesday morning.

WACH Fox Weather Anchor Katy Kramer says the Monday morning commute could turn into a Monday morning nightmare for drivers as snow covered roads state wide turn into ice skating rinks.

She also adds that, with the path now expected to take a more southerly track, we'll be seeing more snow and freezing rain then previously thought.

As of now she's predicting areas north of the I-20 corridor to recieve between 3-5" of snow and places south of I-20 between 1-3" during the early morning hours before the snow changes over to sleet and freezing rain.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Watch for the Midlands Friday afternoon which could be upgraded to a warning come Sunday night.

On top of commuter problems, another big concern is the freezing rain, which could easily lead to downed trees and power lines causing even bigger problems.

Not to mention, USC students head back to school for the first day of the semester Monday.
