COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The new year will hold less fine print and maybe less booze as new laws take effect in South Carolina.

One new law in 2011 will keep some festivals and events from getting temporary alcohol permits.

Legislators were trying to make it easier for non-profits to get the permits, but their new law also ended temporary permits for groups that don't qualify for nonprofit status under the federal tax code.

Hospitality Association of South Carolina President Tom Sponseller hopes the law will be repealed quickly when legislators return to Columbia in a couple of weeks.

Another new law for 2011 will force car dealers to more clearly explain their offers. Dealer will have to use bigger type in print ads and leave disclosures up on TV ads longer.
