WEST COLUMBIA (WACH) -- UPS is expected to move 47,000 packages out of its hub next to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.  Wednesday is expected to be the package giant's busiest day of the year in the Midlands.

"We're 11 percent over this year from last year.  You can see the recession is getting a little bit better, people are feeling more confident in the economy," Day explains.

Day adds if you send a package by next day air on Thursday, it should reach its destination by Christmas Eve.

The United States Postal Service is also expected to be busy over the next few days.  The USPS predicts that on Monday more than 800 million pieces of mail will enter the system making it the busiest mailing day of the year.

That's up almost 40 percent compared to the average.

In order to receive them by Christmas, the deadline for cards and packages is Tuesday with the Postal Service.
