GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Republicans are making plans for the state's first presidential debate in the run-up to the 2012 election.

State party chairwoman Karen Floyd said Wednesday the GOP and Fox News are hosting a debate in Greenville on May 5. Party officials say they're teaming up with Fox New for another debate in South Carolina in early 2012, but a date and place have not been set.

South Carolina will be the first state in the South to send its Republicans to the polls in 2012 when it holds its primary.

No candidates have officially announced their intent to seek the party's nomination. But potential hopefuls including Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin have all made recent visits to South Carolina.
