COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A building at the old South Carolina Farmers Market erupted into flames Tuesday afternoon.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says crews were dispatched with reports of heavy smoke and flames at the location across from Williams Brice Stadium.

Just over a month ago another fire broke out at the same building on the abandoned grounds.

The empty warehouse belongs to the University of South Carolina.

There were plans to demolish the building before the fires erupted.

Officials continue their investigation to find out how the fire started.

And the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is monitoring air quality in Columbia due to the fire.  Officials say due to the weather, a smoke cloud could form low to the ground and drift into the city.

WACH Fox News will continue to follow this story.  Keep checking back for more.
