COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Midlands women were recognized for being role models Tuesday.

The Palmetto Center for Women TWIN Award is presented to women with outstanding achievements in business and the community.

Tuesday's winners included Columbia Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine and Belinda Gergel.

Organizers say the recipients have made outstanding contributions to their professions.

"We are just in awe of the achievements of these women, the contributions they've made to this community, the passions they have for service for the community, so we want to recognize them and hopefully inspire others to serve their communities in the way these women have," says Jeanelle McCain of the Palmetto Center for Women Board.

Forty women were honored at the event.
