COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene has requested a jury trial on charges he showed obscene material to a college student.

Greene was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday on those charges -- one a felony and one a misdemeanor.

But prosecutors say Greene's attorney requested a jury trial. That will not happen until next year and Greene will remain free on bail.

If convicted, Greene could face up to three years in prison for the misdemeanor or up to five years for the felony.

The man who in June won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate with no money, website or visible campaign once suggested the creation of action figures in his likeness as a way to spur job creation.
