LEXINGTON (WACH) -- Lexington County officials are looking to the future when it comes to public transportation.

A group met Friday to focus on the county's transit issues.

Representatives from the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority and County Council were all on hand for the transit summit.

Everyone weighed in on the pros and cons of the county's existing transportation system and coming up with ways to improve it.

Officials say the summit is just the first step.

"It's gonna take time, explains Lexington County Councilwoman Debbie Summers, "It's not gonna be an easy fix overnight with what we've done here but i think we're headed in the right direction."

"I'm optimistic we'll be able to find some solution to the transportation issues in lexington county as a whole. What that might look like in the future, I don't know but we're willing to think outside the box and make it happen," says Jim Kinard with the Lexington County Council.

Lexington officials say they will also have to wait and see what happens in Richland County before they begin any planning.
