COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Citizens for a Greater Midlands held an information session Wednesday morning to learn more about the economic impact of the proposed penny sales tax.
A local economic and financial consulting firm, Miley & Associates Inc., presented a new economic impact study looking at how proceeds from the transportation tax would impact the local economy.
Dr. Harry Miley, founder of Miley & Associates, says if passed the tax would create more than 14,400 new jobs, save commuters a combined 369,000 hours in traffic annually and cost the average household roughly $10 per month.
On the other hand Miley says without the tax the Richland County public transit system and ecoomic development will come to a halt.
