INDIAN LAND, S.C. (AP) -- John Spratt's argument for re-election hasn't changed, even if it is an election year that many say will be tough for Democrats who have been in office a long time like he has.
The 67-year-old is seeking his 15th term in Congress against, despite anti-incumbent sentiment among voters. He also represents a South Carolina district that is growing increasingly conservative. His challenger is Republican state Sen. Mick Mulvaney.
Spratt says it makes sense to re-elect a longtime congressman like him who knows how things work in Washington. But he has to explain what Democrats have done -- and what they haven't gotten done -- in a district that has voted Republican in every presidential race after 1980.
