CHESTER, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been arrested after authorities say he was stopped on Interstate 77 with nearly 180 pounds of marijuana in his car.

Multiple media outlets report 29-year-old Tedric Allison of Johnsonville was arrested Wednesday and charged with trafficking marijuana.

Deputies stopped Allison for a minor traffic violation and found seven bales of marijuana totaling 177 pounds in the trunk of his Chevrolet Impala. Officers also seized $274 in cash.

Authorities say the drugs' street value is about $160,000. Allison is waiting for a bond hearing in the Chester County jail, and it was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith says I-77 is a major drug corridor. The interstate runs from Columbia to Ohio.
