SUMTER, S.C. (AP) -- Police say a Sumter woman has been charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend.
Authorities told The Item of Sumter that 47-year-old Walter O'Connell Barfield died at the hospital Monday shortly after police found him on the front steps of a home with a cut on his neck.
Investigators say Barfield's girlfriend, 44-year-old Carol Pearson, was charged with murder and remains in jail. It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
Police are still trying to determine a motive for the killing.
