WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Sanford, legislators and college officials made little headway in a meeting meant to jumpstart discussions on how to make tuition at South Carolina's public colleges more affordable.
Sanford acknowledged Tuesday little was accomplished in the 2 1/2-hour gathering he organized months before his departure from office. He says he hoped attendees would at least agree on how much colleges collect and spend.
But college officials argue numbers put up by Sanford and the Commerce Department were faulty.
Sanford argues colleges are well funded. College officials argue tuition hikes were the result of deep budget cuts from the state.
Sanford says the Budget and Control Board, which he leads, will discuss on Wednesday whether to suspend college construction.
