JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) -- South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint is scolding Republican colleagues for refusing to strip Sen. Lisa Murkowski's leadership position on the energy committee.

DeMint, who has backed Republican Joe Miller in Alaska's Senate race, says in a fundraising appeal that seeing this result was more than he could bear. He sees his colleagues' decision as hurting Miller and asks for help raising $150,000 through the Senate Conservatives Fund PAC he chairs.

DeMint says the money will allow for ads to be run in Alaska to help stop Murkowski's campaign "dead in its tracks." Murkowski announced last week that she'd mount a write-in campaign to try to keep her job.
