AIKEN, S.C. (AP) -- Longshot Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene has made numerous appearances wearing a simple campaign T-shirt. Now, the unemployed veteran has been spotted wearing a different shirt that pokes fun at South Carolina's tumultuous time in the spotlight.
Multiple media outlets report Greene appeared Monday at an Aiken Rotary Club event. He sported a shirt designed by club president Owen Clary stating, "South Carolina: We Don't Make These Things Up!"
Clary says he got his idea after pondering the events that have landed South Carolina in the news. That includes Gov. Mark Sanford's disappearance last summer and Greene's surprising primary victory.
Greene faces Republican incumbent Jim DeMint and Green Party candidate Tom Clements in November.
