BAMBERG, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina high school band director is to serve five years in prison for having sex with a 14-year-old student twice at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School.

The Times & Democrat of Orangeburg reported a judge on Monday sentenced 35-year-old Michael Miller to 10 years in prison, suspended to five years. He also must register as a sex offender.

Bamberg police say Miller had sex with the girl last year in the school's band room.

Miller was arrested in February and charged with two counts of lewd act on a minor under 16 and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery.

Prosecutors say Miller's wife had been an assistant principal at the high school and confronted the girl.
