COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Access to local emergency services and community resources is vital to low income and elderly residents.
That's why the Public Service Commission of South Carolina and the Office of Regulatory Staff are offering the lifeline program.
It's for those who need local phone service, but can't afford it.
"Excited, we are very excited to offer this program for two years," explains Dawn Hipp, ORS Director of Telecommunications. "We've reached over 50,000 consumers with it in state in coordination with our telephone companies."
To apply for benefits, contact your local telephone company or call the Office of Regulatory Staff at 1-866-788-6565.
