PORT ROYAL, S.C. (AP) -- Most members of the Port Royal town council disagree with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford that 10 acres of former state port property should be reserved for a park.

The Beaufort Gazette reported Thursday the council has discussed the pending $17 million sale of the Port of Port Royal. Sanford says any plans for the 51-acre site should include a 10-acre waterfront park.

Four of the five council members say there should be a smaller park. They don't think 10 acres is feasible or economical.

Councilman Vernon DeLoach says the 10 acres is not suitable for development and should be left open for a park.

Sanford signed legislation six years ago closing the little-used state port.
