COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Two people who had key roles in Steve Benjamin's campaign for mayor may have new jobs at city hall.
Columbia City Council is set to vote on whether to hire Sam Johnson and Michael Wukela as special assistants to the mayor.
Johnson was a campaign blogger and Wukela, a spokesman for the Benjamin campaign.
To make room in the budget, City Manager Steve Gantt must withdraw $32,000 from the emergency services fund.
That money would pay Wukela and Johnson for the rest of the year.
Councilman Daniel Rickenmann says he's concerned about hiring two more staffers since Benjamin already has two paid employees on his staff.
Also on Wednesday's agenda, council is expected to fund Columbia's hydrogen fuel cell project with $75,000 for 2010. That's $25,000 less than last year.
Mayor Benjamin is also trying to make good on a campaign promise moving city council meetings from the morning to the evenings.
That issue will also be discussed on Wednesday.
