COLUMBIA (WACH) -- SCE&G unveiled its new online site Wednesday morning to help customers prepare for a possible power outage.
"We understand that one of the important aspects of our business is making sure we keep the lights on," says Robert Yannity with SCE&G.
Yannity says, "we have worked on our storm site quite a bit to make sure it is as user friendly as possible we have made some very neat upgrades to it that allow customers to go online and see where outages are."
Once customers log on to SCE&G's website they will have access to an Interactive Electric Outage Map.
"What's important about the map is its gonna give you the same consistent message you're gonna get whether you call in and talk to a rep, its gonna give you the same information that you'll get if you call through our automated voice response, its the same message that we're providing the media," says Paul Rouillard with SCE&G.
Rouillard says residents can enter their zip code or address to find out if they're neighborhood is effected and if you're experiencing an outage and its not noted, you can report the information yourself.
Customers wanting to know how long it will take for power to be restored there is very little wait time.
"We decided to make it publish at the top of every hour and every 15 minutes after that, we call it on the 15's so the information will be updated every 15 minutes."
So now customers can have access to faster accurate service with just a few clicks.
