MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- The executive director of South Carolina's Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is resigning.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Tuesday that Dick Trammell submitted his resignation after less than a year on the job heading the museum on Charleston Harbor that is home to the aircraft carrier Yorktown.

Trammell says the Patriots Point Development Authority Board will increase from six to nine members in the coming months under a change in state law. Only three of the original members will remain and Trammell says the new board should be able to choose a leader for the museum.

The 64-year-old Trammell says he'll stay on through year's end.
