COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Days after Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene was indicted for federal pornography charges, the fallout continues.
On Friday, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler asked Greene to step down from the race.
Now, Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate Ashley Cooper is calling for the same.
“The 2010 elections are very important. South Carolina has record unemployment, failing schools, and a culture of politics as usual that blocks reform and progress. This campaign should be about those issues, not about Mr. Greene and his criminal charges. The people of South Carolina want leaders they can be proud of again. We’ve been embarrassed enough,” Cooper said.
Greene was arrested in November for allegedly showing obscene online pictures to a University of South Carolina student and talking about going to her dorm room.
Greene faces Republican incumbent Jim DeMint and Greene Party candidate Tom Clements in November.
